42 years old what are my options?

Hello
I was having a discussion with a friend and she mentioned that she thought that most women weren't on birth control after age 40 because of the complications (blod clots, heart attacks, etc.) Is this true?
I am curious to knowing what other women in thier early 40's are taking for birth control.
I have been using the Nuvaring for about 4 months now and have had no problems.
Thanks.

Hi. I'm 41 and on Seasonale and feel like I found the Fountain of Youth. I no longer feel sick and tired and old. This probably doesn't happen for everyone but my cycles were torture. Everything from ovulation (nausea and pain) to PMS (anxiety, nausea, bloating) and my period (cramps, painful bowl movements, painful urination, heavy flow, migraines, fatigue). Oh, and breasts that swelled to literally twice their size every month.
I haven't had a period in 13 weeks. My doctor told me to take it continuously and, since I was healthy and didn't smoke, I could take it until menopause.
I also lost 5 pounds since I no longer have one of my PMS symptoms.....The Week of Eating...lol.
Good luck.

I'm 36 next week and I use Nuvaring too. I love it and it is the lowest dose of estrogen in a combined hormonal method, from what I understand.

I've taken BCPs then the depo shot for several years. I went off the depo shot at about age 33 or 34. Before having DD#3 I had a couple rounds of chest pain that got me a stress test during which I had a lengthy discussion with my cardiologist about the long term effects of BCPs on your heart. After having DD#3 at age 35 we used non-hormonal OTC methods for the next year and M/C'd one and then I tried Yasmin. I had my first round of high blood pressure that went away after going off of them. A few months later we got pg with DD#4. We decided it was time for something longer term and I didn't want to do the hormones anymore. I felt better off them anyway. I went with Paragard last September and after getting over my wanting a baby boy (got 4 girls) I like it. I had about 3 months were I really wished I could get it took back out. But, I can't really tell anything now. My only AF so far was about 2 days longer than normal and not very bad at all. I even had it inserted when I had no AF, so that was a little more uncomfortable than I think it's supposed to be.
Good luck in your choices!
