Hi,
I snooped around here a bit when I was trying to decide what kind of IUD to get. now I can share my experience with everyone. (I got a paragard)
I'm 28, never given birth, but had an abortion in last may. OB thought because of that, the IUD might be easier to insert. no such luck. it was absolute hell! why they don't give drugs for this is kind of evil. I spent the next three days completely miserable with the worst, most intense and persistent cramps I've ever had. in fact, I had a tattoo (my first) done 5 days after the IUD insertion, and it was a BREEZE compared to that clinic visit!
the first week was crappy, all around. I''m at 1 1/2 week now. I've been bleeding heavily for 4 days. I generally have 5-7 day periods with very light bleeding, only heavy for the first few hours of the first day. I hope this doesn't last. the cramps aren't bad anymore, but they are still present.
I'm crampy, bloody and itchy (tattoo is peeling) but overall happy. my BF and I tested out the new goods a few days ago, and not only is it awesome to not worry about BC, sex is a good distraction from the uncomfortable cramps.
I anticipate it getting better in a few months and I know it's worth it not to worry about BC for 10 years. but I'd urge anyone not getting this directly after chilbirth or an abortion to talk to the doc about some kind of anesthetic.

Hi Hon, welcome!
Jill
