Am I just old fashioned?

(Background Info)
I suffer from menstraul migraines and have for quiet a few months before we figured out what was causing it. I was previously on Ortho Tri Cyclen and my doctor said that since it was a different dosage of hormone every week, this could be the cause. I am now on Demulen, same amount of hormones every week, suppose to make it better, right...NO! (PROBLEM) I called my doctor becasue I once again suffered a migraine the week of my period & apparently he wants me to continually take my pill so that I skip my period every 3 months, this will supposedly get rid of the headaches.
I am not 100% comfortable with this. I feel like your body would not be getting rid of all of that stuff if it wasn't necessary. What happens to it if you don't have your period, where does all that go? I just want some opinions, I feel like I'm the only person in the world that doesn't think it's a good idea to not have your period. Thank you!

old fashioned? I guess if being concerned about unnatural hormones, inserting devices into parts of our body that reproduce, and stopping our natural periods from happening is old fashioned, then i guess you (and I) are.

yeah i think it's weird too. Here's a small section on how the pill works. I found on the internet:

Birth control pills contain hormones that suppress ovulation. During ovulation an egg is released from the ovaries, without ovulation there is no egg to be fertilized and pregnancy cannot occur. The lining of the uterus is also affected in a way that prevents fertilized eggs from implanting into the wall of the uterus.

In other words, I guess the lining isn't formed, so there is nothing to "flush out". Plus i also understand that hormones released during periods produce calcium and other important minerals to strengthen our bones, therefore not having your period for extended amounts of time can cause osteoperosis.

I just think that something so unnatural is scary.

my opinon,

my sister thinks part of her infertility problems come from not having her period while on depo. i kind of like the reassurance every month by having my period.

I also got frequent menstrual migraines, until my doctor suggested taking the pill continuously just like yours did. It's been about a year and a half since I started doing it and it has made a BIG difference in reducing the number of migraines that I get.

I haven't had any ill effects from only having my period every 3 months, & as far as I know there aren't any significant health risks. At first I thought that I'd miss the security of having my period every month, but not anymore. My bf and I also use condoms as a backup method (in addition to the bc) which makes me feel more secure, so that might be something for you to consider. Hope this helped.
