IUD string shrinking

I posted here awhile ago stating that my IUD string had shrunk. Well it is still shrinking.....what is this about? I have an appt on the 30th but until then I will be going crazy wondering what is going on. What would make it go up even more. I never had the strings cut so they were I'd say +/- 3 inches and now it is only 1/2 an inch out of the cervix....(TMI) anyone know what this could be? Also I have not had a period since Nov and had light on and off spotting dec (did not need pad...just some pink after going to the bathroom).

THanks for any imput,

Catmoney

As the others said, your strings will move up and down during your cycle. It's best to check for your strings after your period (if and when you happen to have one), because this is when the cervix is at its lowest point, and the strings often come down with the bleeding. However, that said, because you haven't had period since Nov, and had some spotting in Dec, it's a bit hard to know when your cervix will be further down etc.

As long as you can still feel the strings, don't panic yet, unless you start to feel pain down there, in which case you should see your doc in case your IUD has shifted.

I never checked my strings when I had my IUD. I always knew it was there, but nine times out of ten I couldn't find them. Turned out when I had it removed that they were cut too short when it was put in - it was a wonder I'd ever been able to find them when I saw just how short the strings were. At my six week check up, the gyn (not the one that inserted the IUD) had to do an ultrasound to locate the IUD, because he couldn't see the strings. In about 50% of vaginal exams, doctors and nurses couldn't find my strings, and didn't believe me when I said I had one lol. The day I had it removed, my new gyn had to use some sort of tool to go up into the cervix and fish it out. She'd nearly given up when she finally got it. If she hadn't managed, I would have had to have gone into hospital and gone under anaesthesia to have it removed!

Hi there, just wanted to voice my experiance on this. I got my IUD about a year ago, and after about a week, I could no longer feel the strings, I went to the Doc who told me he wanted an ultrasound done to make sure it was still in there. It was still there, and the Doc had to fish around a while in order to find the strings nad pull them down again, they had just slipped up inside, and now it's done the same thing again, I can't feel the strings, but I know it's in there.
