Has anyone here had an IUD removed? I'm curious about the pain. Does it feel anything as bad as having one put in?

I had mine removed in August last year. I had a brief intense pain as it was pulled through the cervix, and after that I just had some light cramping for a few hours (but given that I hadn't had cramps for three years, I found them really unpleasant lol.

There were two things going on with me though. One, my new gyn had to use a special tool to fish it out of my uterus, because my strings were cut too short when it was inserted, and she couldn't find them. So not only was she pulling the IUD back through the cervix, but also the tool. Secondly, I was experiencing a really bad case of vaginal dryness down there, and so anything touching my cervix was horribly unpleasant.

I did take a couple of ibuprofen an hour or so before my appointment, so that probably helped with cramps and things.

I'm sure you'll be fine :). They don't have to open the cervix up for removal the way they do for insertion, so it should be less painful.
