hi-
i am expecting my first baby in 2 weeks and my husband and i have never used any BC. we want to wait a few years before having baby 2, so i need BC. however, i cannot take hormones and im allergic to latex. I understand the paraguard IUD is a good option but i was wondering if anyone here has used it and if you have any feedback about side effects, complications, or positive feedback.

thanks!

Hi! If you just look back through the last few months you'll find several posts about the Paragard. I got mine last September and once I had it for about 3 months, I really do like it. I'm still breastfeeding the baby (15 months) and haven't had regular periods. I even had mine inserted without a period and it went pretty well. (I posted back in Sept or Oct about it.) My only period with it since insertion, December, was about 2 days longer and was heavier, but I didn't really have any cramping.

I wanted to post this link about the paragard. If you scroll down to teh insetion process, it pretty accurately described it for me. I think they had to dilate me. I took no pain meds, I had mild cramping and went to work immediately after.

I have had mine since July 2005 (after baby #2). I have no problems with it. I am having a wonky cycle this month, but I went to teh gyn and it has nothing to do with the IUD. It is in place and all good.

I have a very high cervix and a tilted uterus. I have no discomfort. My only problem is in my ability to reach the strings.
