Prothrombin Gene Mutation and Mirena IUD

Hi there

I just found out that I am heterozygous for prothrombin gene mutation, so I cannot take the pill or use anything like that. Also, any pregnancy needs to be planned because I will need to be on blood thinners beforehand to avoid any dangerous complications. My obgyn suggested the Mirena IUD which I am having put in next month, because she doesn't want me relying on condoms only to avoid unplanned pregnancy. I have been reading all the posts about it on here, but I was wondering about the experiences of those who HAVEN'T had children yet and have had one inserted. I have heard it is quite painful if you haven't had children, and although the dr gave me pills that will soften the cervix before I go in to see her, I am still terrified! I don't do well with pain. When I have a pap I am fine, just feels uncomfortable and I've heard from someone it is just a little worse than that......is this true for those who haven't had kids? Also, I am scared of being that one person out of a 1000 that gets pregnant on it, just becuase I have a much higher risk of developing a clot than a normal woman.....does anyone ever use condoms with an IUD or is that unecessary? Anybody actually ever become pregnant on one of these? I have been reading about lots of bad experiences, does anyone have any good ones? :(

Thanks :)
