elevated BP

Hey all--

I haven't posted in quite a while...because I've found a great birth control that work magically. I am currently on Nuva Ring and have been for about a year now. I recently switched doctors, and she seems to be quite concerned about my blood pressure. No doctor I have had before has ever mentioned anything about my blood pressure, so I was surprised when this new doctor was so worked up about it. I went in about 6 months ago and it was 140/80...getting into the pre-hypertensive range. She asked me to come in a few days later to see if it had gone down, and it did--it was 130/75. She gave me a 6 month refill. So when I went back in last week because my script had run out, she acted very worried again. My BP was 138/80 and she acted like that was unacceptable. She told me that if it hadn't gone down in 2 weeks, she would not write me a script for birth control. I know high BP is bad, but I'm a 19 year old college student, and to me, pregnancy protection is more important than elevated BP. She had me get my blood drawn and I have to go back again to try to convince her to write me another script. My questions are, is she correct to be this worried about this? And if she does take me off Nuva Ring, what are my other options?
