BCP period question!
| Tue, 02-06-2007 - 6:15am |
Hello all, I'm new here and to BCP. I started them on the first day of my last period, and just finished all the blue pills and today was the second day of the green placebo pills. I have been having a little blood during urination, but nowhere near the heavy flow I usually get. I started bleeding about three days before I finished the blue pills, and am still bleeding a little. But the weird thing is that the bleeding looked more like when you end your period, rather than start it. I also haven't had any cramping, and usually my periods are horribly painful. I don't know if this is normal...I thought after taking all the blue pills you get your period? Is that true? I've never used BCP so I don't know what's normal. Thanks!

Hi everybody!
I am sorry that I have to comment on one fo the factual statements you made -- namely that sperm lives for only a few hours under unfertile conditions in the vagina.
I guess this is truly the case granted that the sperm's entry further into the reproductive tract is blocked (i.e. by a diaphragm or other barrier method), since our OP didn't mention using any barrier contraceptive methods, I don't think we can assume that the sperm will only live for several hours. In fact, in the proper environment, such as the female reproductive tract beyond the cervix, sperm have a life-span of up to five days (I took this info from Go Ask Alice, a site recommended by anumber of health professionals).
While I don't think our OP should be seriosuly concerned because she made up for the missed pill within the next 24 hours, I am only bringing this up, so we are all aware of the different life spans of sperm under different conditions. By the way, I think (and my brand of pills patient info suggests so) it is best to take the pill you have missed as soon as you remember (no matter what time it is) rather than wait for the following day -- that way the hromone levels necessary for pregnancy prevention will be back to normal (as when on the pill) sooner.
All the best,
Feisty

Hi, dancer!
Sorry, I wasn't paying attention (yet,I did post -- very presumptuous on my part...) :)) Seriously, thank you for your response: I am here to learn, for sure, and I really had no idea that there is a difference between the mucus coming from the servix during ovulation compared to secretions at other times. Thank you , again.
