I hope I spelled it right.
I just got back from my annual with my GYN. I have been taking oral BCP's forever. Well- I've had blood pressure issues for a couple of months now (it's fluctuating up and down) and it was up today. GYN said that if it stays up, the pill is not for me, since there's a higher risk of stroke.
I would LOVE to just chuck all BCP's. She said something about the mini-pill. Did that with dd #2. Hated it. It made my very irregular periods even more irregular. Blech. I am tired of taking them, tired of running to the pharmacy to fill them etc. Getting pregnant isn't a problem, because, well I can't. I have problems with hormones, the RE I saw several years ago told me there was NO WAY I could get pregnant again (I had 2 pregnancys without any help- I have no idea how since 99% of my cycles are annovulatory). And if by some miracle I did- well, we'd deal with it (dh would love another child anyhow lol) The reason why I take them is that my periods are horrible. I have endometriosis, so my periods are heavy, long and painful. I don't want to have to deal with that mess (and trust me, it is) every single month.
So she gave me info on the IUD. I just don't know. I grew up in the era where IUD's were bad. I haven't done a whole lot of research on it yet, I'm afraid to go to the drug maker's website b/c all they're gonna put on there is the positive stuff.
So, has anyone taken it? Side effects? Do you like/dislike it?
Thanks for reading and replying!

Hi sneakymom1, welcome!
Jill
I just had my first baby in December and decided on the Mirena IUD for myself. My DH is on medication that can cause birth defects so we wanted to be VERY sure there was no oops baby.
There is a very small amount of hormones in the IUD. It's not like the IUDs there used to be, that was mostly copper with no hormones and could be kept up to 10 years. The copper IUD can cause worse cramping and heavy periods in a lot of women. The mirena doesn't have those problems and it good for 5 years. Most women stop having their period on it.
I've only had mine a week but so far I really like it. It was mildly uncomfortable to have it placed but not painful. I had some spotting and cramping that day and the next. I had it put in at my 6 week post partum check up so I hadn't had sex yet and since it's effective immediately it was nice to know I really had the go ahead. My DH did not feel the strings (some men say they can during sex), even if your DH/SO does my doctor said that goes away in a month or so as the strings soften a bit.
If you have any other questions about it feel free to ask.

Hi there!
I've had the Mirena IUD for a year and two months. I just love it!! To give you a little history on myself, I'm 26, married, and have not had children.
Here's what I love:
Here's what I don't love:
I'm not sure what the link is with Mirena and Blood Pressure - but I would say that is something to look into.
Mirena does release a little progesterin directly into your uterus - but it hasn't caused me any issues.
There is the other type of IUD: the Paragard (Copper) IUD. This is good for 10 years (compared to Mirena's 5 years). It has been known to cause heavier and longer periods. But there is no hormones.
Good luck in your decision!
