Effective birth control

I have a question about effective pregnancy protection. I'm a virgin, and before I have sex with my boyfriend I want to make sure that I make an informed decision about birth control. I am on the Pill, and am usually good about taking it at the same time every day. I think it would be a good idea for us to use a backup form, though, just to be on the safe side. Would a condom with a spermicidal lubricant be sufficient? (I know three forms of birth control might seem anal, but I'm just trying to make an informed decision.)

Thanks for any help!

Thanks so much for your reply! I am usually pretty good about taking my Pill at the same time every day, but I've posted a little reminder on my PDA so I am even better at it. My issue is that I'm a student about to embark on a career, so I need the most effective birth control I can find. (To be honest, one of the many why I have stayed a virgin as long as I have is due to abstinence being the most effective form of birth control.) Could you explain why you don't think the spermicidal lube used on condoms is "probably not enough to make a meaningful difference"?

Thanks again for your help, and your kind welcome to the board!
