Essure and novasure procedures
| Tue, 02-13-2007 - 6:48am |
I have recently been to my gyno and he said that if I am looking for a permanent birth control there is a procedure called Essure which is where they put these springs inyour fallopian tubes and they close completely up after 3 months. Sounds good? Also he suggested a procedure called Novasure which lightens drastically or stops completely all of you periods. They do this by "burning: the inside of your uterus? Anyone had this done or know of anyone who has had this procedure done? I am confused with new technology and do not know what to do?

Hi heidikins1677, welcome!

Hi, I'm sure that I'm late with this response, but I wanted to respond anyway.
I had an endometrial ablation done in 12/04. It is NOT a form of birth control, it's a procedure in which the lining of the uterus is burned away to lighten your periods, and for some women it actually stops their periods. Mine were really heavy and problematic, so I opted for the procedure.
At the same time, I had the Essure procedure done, it's a permanent form of BC, which is necessary in order to have an ablation done, as becoming pg after an ablation would be dangerous. Essure is less invasive than a tubal ligation, there is no cutting involved.
