Bleeding during sex, help please

Hi everyone! I really hope someone can reassure me with this problem I've had for quite a while now.

I've been on birth control for about 5 years. I started out on OTC and did fine with it. A few years later my doctor switched me to OTC Lo. Every month, about a week before my period, I would bleed during sex only. I was sure it was just because of that particular bc so I ignored it until my next pap smear a year later. I mentioned it to my doctor, he wasn't worried, switched me back to OTC. (Actually I began taking Trinessa, which is the generic.)

I did ok for a while...but I noticed a change in my moods so I asked him to switch me again. He put me on Yasmin this past summer. During my 2nd month of it I bled during sex again. I started to panic and switched myself back to Trinessa. At this point I was a little hesitant to have sex, but the few times I did the bleeding didn't happen. I precisely remember having sex a few times just a few days after my period ended and there was no bleeding at all.

Now, a few months ago I started an antidepressant which gave me diarrhea just about every day for a month. The following month I bled during sex again...a little over a week before my period was due. Maybe I was readjusting again after "passing" my pill each day without realizing it?

I'm so confused. I've seen my doctor a few times over this, and I've had two or three normal pap smears since this all began. When it happens I get really depressed and think there must be something wrong with me! Is this a normal side effect from the pill? Common sense tells me if it were something worse I'd know by now...it's been two years since this started!

I've actually stopped taking bc this past week. But I'm kinda scared to have sex. If it happens again I'm going to freak out.

Can anyone help me?

Hi! This sort of thing would happen to me occasionally during sex and I think it was hormone related.. Have you tried using lubrication? Sometimes if things are dry down there, a water-based lubricant can make things a lot more comfortable and perhaps stop the bleeding.

I don't think lubrication is the issue...there always seems to be plenty, and there's no pain at all.

I found an older message on this forum and someone explained it as a "normal side effect" because birth control thins the lining or something like that.

I'm going to my dr. today for the third time. Hopefully this gets resolved soon because I'm really worried about ovarian cancer b/c it runs in my family.

I would see your doctor and ask him/her. If your bleeding during and after sex and you had tests done and they came back negative. I bled during and after sex twice and it stopped. I'm on a whole lot of different prescription medicines plus anxiety/anti-depressant and birth control and take them when I should everyday. My boyfriend tried to tell me it was the medicine I was on. So I went to the Doctor and he tried to tell me the same, it's not. If your stressed out, that has alot to do with it. The only other thing is if you haven't had sex in a few months and exersize regularly...that may be the reason, your body revirginized itself.

Bleeding after sex can be caused by a couple of different things.

The most alarming thing that can cause bleeding is a sexually transmitted disease.

I saw my doctor a while back, he checked my ovaries and doesn't see a problem. I went off of birth control to see if that would help. I had sex for the first time a few weeks ago right after my period and I didn't bleed at all. I am hoping it stays that way.

The thought of gynocological cancers still scare me though. Could this be uterine cancer that maybe my dr. has overlooked?
