Nuvaring and Herbal Supplemen Vitamins..

Hey everyone,
I'm currently on Nuvaring and its been great except for one thing...I cant seem to lose weight easily like I used to before I was on it. I'm thinking about taking Green Tea or Pyruvate supplement pills to give a little kick to my slow metabolism.
My question is...will this affect the effectivness of the birth control??? And has anyone taken Pyruvate?
Thanks a bunch!
Lorena

Hi envyme_79, welcome!

I have to agree with Jill on this one. A lot of weight loss supplements are a colossal waste of money. Green tea won't hurt you and may give you a boost of antioxidants, but to boost your metabolism, old-fashioned hard work is the most tried and true way to do it.
I've been able to find one study of obese women who took pyruvate. The pyruvate group lost more weight (about 30% more) than the placebo group, but the quantity of pyuruvate that they were taking in the study was a lot more than you'd want to take in a day. These women were also on a 1000 calorie liquid diet--that's not a lot of calories. Pyruvate is a substance made in the human body, so in normal-sized doses it probably wouldn't interact with the hormones in the ring, but in normal-size doses it might not do anything to help you either.
If you aren't doing any weight-training, you may want to add that to your routine. Cardio is great for burning large numbers of calories, but when you add muscle mass you increase the number of calories you burn even when you're not working out--muscle requires calories to maintain itself, fat doesn't. Don't worry about getting bulky--you won't, even if you lift heavy weights, you don't have enough testosterone for that.
It may not be as easy to lose weight, but I bet you can still do it with the right combination of diet and exercise!!
Good luck!
