MY Dr. just put me on the NuvaRing... how do you like it? Did you experience any side effects?

I've been on NuvaRing since Aug and I LOVE it!! I don't have any side effects, in fact, I'm actually getting my sex drive back!! lol I love not having to remember to take a pill everyday, I only have to think about it like twice a month, to remove it, and to reinsert it. Plus they have "Nuva Time" that you can download onto your computer to remind you when it's time to remove and insert it!! I absolutely LOVE my NuvaRing and would totally recommend it!!

I've been on it for a month, and so far I would say I like it. It's very convenient- I love not having to worry about taking a pill every day.

I start the Nuvaring today. I am switching from Cryselle. I will let you know how it goes! Have you started it yet? How's it going for you?

Love it! I have been using it for 3 years and never had any side effects. It's extremely convenient and easy to use. You do need to be comfortable with yourself, enough to insert it and take it out. Once it's in you won't even know it's there. Hope that helps!

I have been on Nuvaring since 2002 and haven't had any problems with it. Most of the time I don't even notice that it's there. You just have to remember to take it out on time and put a new one in on time, but don't worry if you take it out a couple days late just put the new one in when you were supposed to.

I'm sure you've heard about the increased risk of blood clots with birth control. It's higher with the NuvaRing (30/100,000). It's a small number, and I took my chances. This week, I was in the ER and the hospital with a blood clot in my lung. Part of my lung acutally died! I'm on blood thinners. It's a very small, but very risky chance. I had NO other risk factors. Just pay attention for swelling in any part of your body (esp. legs and arms). My only sign was chest pain. Drs. in the ER at first told me it was just muscle pain. A few weeks later I went back w/pain and finally had a CT scan. It was a clot in my lung, and I'm now on blood thinners. Just be aware of any unusual changes, and take them seriously. I had been on the ring for a year, with pretty limited side effects (mood swings, cravings, etc.)

The risk is no different with Nuvaring than it is with any other birth control pill containing desogestrel and other progestins developed at the same time--this is something that we've known about since the early 1990's when the first study indicated the slightly increased risk compared with older progestins.

Any woman on birth control, regardless of what pill she's taking, needs to be aware of the major signs that something is wrong--it's all listed in the patient information!

Maybe I'm confused. NuvaRing does have a higher risk of blood clots than the pill, right? On the NuvaRing website, it says there isn't sufficient evidence to determine this, but when I read some medical journal articles, it was a greater risk (like 30/100,000 on NuvaRing vs. 10-15/100,000 on the pill). It still seems like a small number to me, but being on the recieving end of a blood clot, one I'd tell my friends about.
