Questions about Mirena

Hello all,

I just got the Mirena. I am 8.5 weeks post partum with my third baby. I used the mini-pill before because I nurse, but I got bad nausea and headaches from it. So I thought the Mirena might be better. So I got it, but then I looked it up just to see what people have said about it, and I read horror story after horror story about weight gain. Is the Mirena really that bad??????! I almost called and got an appt. to get it out this week. What should I do? I figure I should wait and at least see how things go. Alesse always worked well for me when I wasn't nursing, and it's the same hormone, so I was hoping I would be the same on it. Any advice. Please:)

I had the mirena for a little over 3 years and for the most part I've was very happy with it.for the first 3-4 months or so I had longer/heavier periods that came every 2 weeks and lasted 16+ days---but I think that was because it wasn't put in on day one of my cycle and that threw things out of whack for a bit. Each month after that my periods got shorter and lighter and easier to deal with where right before I had it taken out I was basicly spotting for 1-2 days for a period if I even had one....I would get the mirena again if I needed that....good luck

I just had mine put in at my 6 week post partum check up. I talked to my doctor about the horror stories before hand and she assured me that it was rare. You can find horror stories about every kind of birth control.

So far I spotted for a day or two after getting it put in. Then I stopped and about a week later I had a regular type period. I'm now spotting off and on and I was told that was normal. Some days I don't have anything and some days I have to wear a panty liner. I know it can go on like that for awhile but it's so nice not to have to worry about taking something every day.
