Your experiences with Cervial Caps

Hi everyone!

I have been on the BCP for 3.5 years now and am looking to get off hormones. I made an appt. with my gyno in April to discuss possibly switching to a cervical cap. Any suggestions or experiences you have had with one? Are they easy to use? do you like using them? Thanks so much!!

Hi Judie & Jill,

Thanks for your responses. At first I was a little worried because all of the statistics make it seem like there is a large failure rate for the cap...but once I went on the FemCap website and realized there were a lot of conditions for the study (like the particpants weren't allowed to use backup methods in the first few trials, etc.) and felt a lot better. And on top of that, when I was looking up where I could get a FemCap, my doctor's name was on the list as a distributor...so she should defintely be someone good to talk to.

Jill - have you felt like the cap has taken away spontaneity? All the literature I have read on the topic says it doesn't, but I am wondering how different it is from the pill. Obviously on the pill, it doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing, but it seems like on the cap it might take away some of that.

Thanks for your input, I'm sure I'll have more questions soon!

I had an overwhelming desire to get off hormones. So I did. We tried a cervical cap and even a diaphragm. Neither felt good for him at all, he is extremely large and just ended up rubbing hard on it the whole time. So. I loooooooooove being off hormones. We just went back to the rhythm method and have been that way for five months. He is a very experienced lover so is well aware of when he's going to ejaculate. It's not as though he would by accident inside me. So far it has been really good -- I feel better and more sexual without hormones coursing through me. It's pretty messy though, all that semen has to go somewhere, we just get him off through bjs or facials or just letting fly on my tummy. Just have to remember to not get it on my good clothes because the dry cleaner asks what it is. lol

I used the cap when I was in my early 30s and again after I had my dd in 1998. It worked great -- the 'pop' sound when I took it out told me it was sealed tight. I 'tried' a diaphragm briefly - - yuck. It seemed HUGE compared to the cap and moved around too much.

Hi,

I'm REALLY wanting to get off hormonal BC (but i do not want ANY children). I'm interested in the Femcap and I was wondering Jill, do you JUST use femcap and spermicide or do you use it along with Condoms?

Thanks!
