I have been dating my boyfriend for about a year in a half we have not used protection for about a year the only protection we have used were condoms we do the "pull out" method. Well my worry is that we had sex the day before my period came and he pulled out to late and some of his "nut" came in me i have heard that women even though they are on their period can be pregnant and sperm can live for 3 days so im probably very fertile i dont know i need peoples opinon

Hi,
Women usually ovulate somewhere between day 6 (quite rare) of their cycle and day 21 if they are a late ovulator. If you are only a couple of days out from your period, it's VERY unlikely that you are pregnant, or will become pregnant.
For women that ovulate early, or have a long period, then yes, it is possible to become pregnant if you have unprotected sex during the last few days of your period.
You should read Toni Weschler's "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" so you can learn some things about yourself. It also teaches you how to chart your cycles so you can tell when you are ovulating. If you are incapable of being responsible about using some kind of barrier method or birth control, I think this will at least teach you some things and teach you when to avoid unprotected sex.
Agreed!
Hi,
I have some experience to share regarding having sex during the infertile period.
In my case, I'm already married, 28 years old, but my husband and I do not plan to have baby yet until this July. My cycle on average is 30 days. It's tried and tested for 8 months already...we have sex on my 25th day of the cycle up to the day just before my menses come...no pregnancy. Just recently also, my cycle became 32 or 33 days...we had sex starting frm my 25th day and finally my menses came. For your information, my husband did not withdraw, i.e., his semen stays in my body.
Also, I'm actually a reproductive biotechnologist doing IVF matters. Frm my laboratory experience, the timing when the sperm is available (and ready) and the egg has just popped out frm the ovary is very crucial to determine whether you'll end up pregnant or not. In cases when the egg has already popped out frm the ovary for long (i.e., the egg is aging) and fresh sperm comes...the sperm will not be able to penetrate the egg because aged egg has harder 'eggshell' (actually is zona pelucida). That's why the best time to conceive ranges from a few days before and after your 14th day of your cycle.
Hope this information helps.
