yaz and breakthrough bleeding

Hello ladies. I have been reading this board for a while on and off. I have been being treated for PMDD for about 5 years now. Recently, I began taking Yaz. I called my doctor about it after I read some success stories.

The first month was great. NO side effects, got my period on time, and it only lasted 4 days. Second pack, I started to bleed on the first day of the second week. I'm still having spotting light red daily almost a week later. I am aware that this is to be expected, and that it might go away, but I was just wondering if any of you had breakthrough bleeding in the beginning and did it stop for you. I really want to stay on Yaz, because it does seem to make a huge difference in my moods. If you ladies have words on encouragement regarding the breakthrough bleeding and spotting, I'd love to hear them.

Since it has been going on for 8 days, is that any indication that this pill is not right for me? Or should I still give it the three months? I know if I call the doc they will say to ride it out. Anyone have an opinion?

Thanks for reading!

I'm not sure about Yaz, but I am on Yasmin. I am just into the second week of my second pack of pills, and I haven't had any bleeding since my period. However, during that first package, starting at about the end of the second week of pills, I bled for about 10 days before even starting my period, which lasted about five. So, I had about 15 days of bleeding. Of course, the first 10 days were very light and spotty, so I just considered that to be breakthrough bleeding. It only got slightly heavier when I had my period during the placebo pill week. Hopefully, the breakthrough bleeding won't start again during this package. It was not fun to go through a pack of pantiliners and half a box of light tampons in 2 weeks! :)
I don't know much about the whole birth control topic, but that is just my experience. There are some very knowledgeable people on this board, so I'm sure you'll get other answers.

You really should ride it out. It's very common to have irregular bleeding/spotting when starting BC. If you switch pills you'll have to start over and still may have the BTB.

I've been on Yasmin for one and half year. When I started on it the first month I had spotting, but after my body adjusted to it, I get my periods regularly with no problems than without it. I don't have severe crampings, mood swings, spotting, and all the other good stuff that comes it. The only problem I had a couple of months ago, was I started bleeding after sex like I was on my period and the pill and pregnancy came into question...that had nothing to with the pill because it went away. I find taking Yasmin alot better than Ortho-tricyclin. Just take the pill at the same time everyday.

Ladies,

Thanks for the great, honest responses. Thanks to those who have shared personal experiences as well. I really want to stay on this pill since it helps so much in other ways. I'm going to stick with it and hope for the best! Hopefully the bleeding will go away and I'll be able to encourage others to stick with it!
