Hey miranda! I used to be on Yasmin but then my gyno switched me to Yaz. He said that its the same thing but the hormone levels are lower in Yaz. Which I found out is true but it does not seem like much of a difference to me. Right now I'm looking at an old sample box of Yasmin that I found and it indicates that there's 3 mg of drospirenone and 0.03 mg of estradiol in each tablet. Now, on my pack of Yaz it indicates that there's 3 mg of drospirenone and 0.02 mg of estradiol in each tablet. So yeah the hormone levels are a weeeee bit different.
What would be the doctor's purpose in putting someone on Yasmin rather than Yaz? Why give the woman that little bit extra hormone? I am just curious b/c I am on Yasmin. My doctor never mentioned Yaz to me. What does that extra hormone in Yasmin do?
Hi, I take Yaz and that little bit of difference in the estrogen can mean a lot if you have PMDD. Also the dosing is different. Yaz is 28 day with only 4 days of sugar pills so women are exposed to fewer days without hormones. Yaz is FDA approved for the treatment of PMDD premenstrual dysphoric disorder and man has it helped me. It is a miracle pill.
