Pregnant w/ Mirena IUC?

I had a Mirena IUC put in last summer but never went back to have it's position checked like I was supposed to do every three months (can this can hurt the effectiveness?) Because of Mirena, I have had much lighter (and fewer) periods and I haven't been tracking them at all and I have only a vague idea of when we could have possibly conceived. If my doctor asks me when my last period was, I have NOTHING to tell her. I have no idea.
Anyhow, I felt like I was going to pass out last Friday morning for no reason, and then I woke up with SUPER sore breasts the next day and have been slightly on-and-off nauseous ever since. Combined with some mild cramping for about that same time period (or a little longer) are these pregnancy symptoms?
I feel like a total dunce since I already have a child but it wasn't until I was much further along that we found out I was pg with that one. (I never remembered having sore breasts at all and only recalled some slight nausea in hindsight.)
I've tried two pg tests but both were negative, but I have no idea whether it's too early for them to be able to pick up the hcg or not.
What should I think????

My doctor only had me go back at one month to have the Mirena checked. After that I only have to have it checked once a year.
Have you had a reason to think it's not in anymore? can you feel the strings? If you can I wouldn't really think you could be pregnant but who knows. If you took a test and it's negative wait a whole week before trying another one. Your symptoms could be PMS symptoms I always have sore breasts and some cramping before my period.

Hi hicklet, welcome!

Thanks for your reply. I keep see-sawing back and forth thinking "I'm definitely pregnant" one minute and "I can't be" the next. (Of course, I'm still nauseous, sore, and tired. Those haven't gone away.)
The fact that I haven't been keeping track of my periods (what there are left of them) and feeling the way that I am (which is unusual for me, all these symptoms combined, even for PMS) is making me paranoid on TOP of knowing that I was supposed to get the IUC checked but didn't. I really don't know why I am supposed to get it checked, and I do feel the string, but I think I remember my doctor mentioning at my last appt that there is a small possibility to get pg with Mirena and that some people have it removed and some leave it in during pregnancy. So it all just makes me wonder what to think!!
Thanks again for your reply. It wouldn't be a tragedy if I were pregnant, it's just not something that we'd planned on (obviously) or even wanted, but I will just have to get used to the idea that we might have to squeeze another baby into our tiny 2nd bedroom with our 2 year old. Oy.
Your periods can be irregular with the IUD as well. In some women it inhibits ovulation in some it doesn't. Some women stop having a period all together. It depends on how long you've had it, the longer you use it the more likely you are to NOT have a period.
Honestly if you can still feel the strings, it's still in. Not all doctors have you go back even once. Some doctors tell you to check for the strings and mine told me it's really not necessary once you've done it once or twice. I'd highly doubt you're pregnant. The only things more effective then the IUD is permanent sterilization.

I appreciate the info from everyone, thank you. It's good to know that not all doctors ask that Mirena users come back to have it checked at all, let alone every three months. I didn't know that. I thought for sure it must have been vitally important to the efficacy of the product (which makes me wonder why I didn't just go back when I should have!) which it may be, but obviously not as much as I had thought.
To answer your question, I haven't done or eaten anything different whatsoever lately, so I have no reason I can think of to believe the way I feel is caused by something external. And my pre-menstrual symptoms typically start much closer to when my period starts than they have, if that is the case here. I never get sore breasts as sore as they are right now. I'm paranoid because all this is so abnormal for me and all at once, you know?
But thanks, I will check back when I get some info. I have an appt to get checked in two weeks, so by then I will definitely know something, either w/ a home test or from my doctor.
