Filling my BC prescription...

My gyno called in a prescription for me in January, for 12X refills of Yasmin. She gave me a starter pack to start out with, and when I finished it, I filled one refill of Yasmin and that is what I'm on right now. I would like to get 2 packs at a time, just to have an extra and so I won't have to go every month to fill it. How do I do this? Since I have 11X refills remaining, do I just tell the pharmacy I'd like to refill 2 at a time? Or will they only let me get one at a time?

i think it depends on your insurance. I am only allowed 4 packs at a time, but I usually just say I need 4 packs filled.

It depends both on your insurance and how the prescription is written.

Hey kt! I used to be a pharmacy technician at a drug store and I know from experience that you might be able to get more than one pack at a time but it really depends on your health insurance. I've noticed that some insurance plans actually would cover up to three months supply (or in the case of bc three packs) in one shot! However, some insurance plans only pay for one month supply at a time. You should ask the pharmacy refill two packs instead of one. They should be able to do it for you as long as your insurance will cover both packs. If the pharmacy says your insurance does not cover more than one pack at a time you can either-ask the pharmacy to process one pack through your insurance which will be your normal co-pay or price and process the other pack without your insurance in which you will pay full price.

Or you can call your insurance plan (the toll free number should be in the back of the card) and ask a representative if it's possible to have coverage for more than one pack of your bc and how. If all else fails, ask your insurance about mail order. I don't know much about mail order but I think they send you more than one month supply and the good thing is you don't have to go to the pharmacy as much and it's cheaper! I know this sounds like a lot of work but it's worth it and if you go to a good pharmacy they'll be helpful and cooperative!

Just an FYI about online ordering of BC.. there have been reports that at least 10% of pills are counterfeit. There was just a presentation at my school, but since I don;t have the data I can;t say for sure, but it is something to think about.
