Anyone had Essure done?

I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has had this procedure done.

I'm looking into the Essure procedure as a gift to myself for my upcoming 29th birthday; I am absolutely certian that I will not be having more children.

I'll be sitting down with a doctor who can do the procedure on April 3rd.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I had the Essure procedure done back in 12/04, at the same time as an endometrial ablation, which essentially burns the lining of the uterus to alleviate heavy/problematic periods. I wasn't ready to not have anymore children, but given my pgcy hx, it was the best thing for me. (I do have two beautiful children. :) I also had a m/c before my son came along, plus a couple of chemical pgcies.)

Essure entails placing tiny coil springs into the fallopian tubes, causing scar tissue to build up, therefore permanently blocking the tubes.

The endometrial ablation makes it dangerous for women to be pg again, so a woman who has it done must have a form of permanent bc implemented (either the woman or man).

Anyway...
For the first three months after you go through Essure, you must use a back up form of bc. Then, 3 months after the surgery you will have an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) done, in which dye is injected through the cervix via catheter while an Xray is taken... to ensure that the Essure coils are in the right position and to ensure that the procedure did indeed block your fallopian tubes.

The recovery time is really short, it's an outpx procedure. Some cramping afterwards. Granted, since I had the endometrial ablation done at the same time, I had more cramping than someone who is just having the Essure done. Essure is definitely less invasive than a tubal ligation, being that there is no cutting involved.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Vida for taking the time to respond & share your experience with me.

I'm glad to hear that your "real" experience was so close to what the essure website describes. I've had Mirena for 5 years now and I'm ready for a permenant solution.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
