Smoker w a question??

Hello,

I'm new to the board. I am 40, 4 kids, smoker, in a wonderful relationship, and have a question about bc and smoking.

I know, smoking is not good for you, have heard it all!!lol

My question is: Is there a "regular/dependable" form of bc that can be taken/used daily, within the confines of also being a smoker? Using condoms, and an internal form of bc, just feels like it's not enough. I had a huge prob with my last pregnancy, that caused me to end up with a big prob . . . should I get preg again, I will probably end up dead.

I was told by my gyn, that I could not go on the pill, and my ins will not cover an iud. I'm curious as to whether the "shot" or the "ring" would work for me.

Thanks so much!!

Jill brought up the Essure procedure... I had that done.

Here's my post about it...

Jill,

Thanks so much for that info!!

I did check out the board's info through ivillage on forms of bc. Very informative!!

I had a prob gaining weight w a med that I was on for a physical prob a couple of years ago, and do not want to go through that again, so I was grateful for the info on the shot. Also, bone thinning is a prob in my family, so I don't want to add anythng to that either!!

I had no idea that they'd come out with the Essure(sp?) form. That sounds kind of interesting to me, so I'll be following the link on that one that you provided, as well as searching for posts on it.

Thank you again!!

Vida,

Thanks so much for adding that link to your post. How are things now? Have the implants stayed in place? How often do you have to have the hysterosalpingogram?

How much did this procedure cost? What about the follow up x-rays?

Thanks again!!

Once the coils are in, they're in, permanently. The hysterosalpingogram is a one-time deal to insure that the inserts are in place 3 months after you have the procedure done.

In all honesty, I don't know what the surgery cost, we have insurance, so a big part of it was covered. Same for the HSG.

Good luck, I'm curious to know how it goes for you, so post again!

Vida,

I'm beginning this whole thing. I'm contacting my ins, and am waiting to hear from my SSI disability insurance whether they will cover any of this. Since I'm disabled, $$ is so tight, and there would be no way that I could afford to pay out of pocket for this.

For me, in the beginning stages of perimenopause, I think a "non-hormonal" form of bc would be the best. I don't think that I could physically, mentally, take the influx of any more hormones that are already flowing!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!! I'll definitely let you know if I have this done, and how it goes!!

Sorry I haven't been around, I just came looking to see if there was another post from you.

I know about tight $$ troubles, believe me. I'm sorry that you're going through that.

I wish you all the best, I hope that something works out for you and that you can get the medical attention that you need. Let me know what happens!
