I just got an IUD inserted today. It's the coper one. I am having some dull cramps which my doctor told me to expect. Anyone else have the paragard IUD? I never get cramps with my period so these cramps are kind of bothersome. How long do they last after the insertion?

I think we've heard from some women that the cramps can last a few hours or a few days.

I have the Mirena IUD (instead of the coppper IUD) and I can tell you that before I had the IUD, I never had a problem with cramps. Now with the IUD in, I have more cramping. It happened for the few months following insertion and now ever time I need to have a bowel movement or if I'm on my period, I still get the cramps. I just take Advil to relieve the pain.

I also have the Mirena and had cramps for a few days, then spotting off and on for about a month. Since then I haven't had a period yet (I've had it about 6 weeks).
