IUD, how many partners feel strings?

I know this has been addressed in a poll on this board, but I want to know if there are studies that show how often a partner feels the IUD strings.

I am considering the Mirena, which would have been great to get when ds was 6 weeks but now he is 11 months and dh thinks it sounds like a better idea. Sheesh! Anyway, I have a friend who had a Mirena and had to have it removed because her dh felt the strings. Also, dh’s ex wife had a copper IUD and he could feel the strings with that one.

Are the strings different in Mirena vs copper? It just seems strange that the only two women I know of IRL who had the IUD had the same problem, and they are totally different builds. One is about a size 0/1 and one is at least a size 20.

Oh, and my first preference is Implanon but nobody in my area inserts them yet.
Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the tip Xplosiv. I will make sure to get them longer at the beginning and cut them back if needed.
I hope that other than the strings it was a good experience for you.

No, unfortunately it wasn't, and I finally had it removed after 3.5 years of suffering. In that time I had about four months when things went well, and then it REALLY turned to custard after that time. The Mirena was my last hormonal option. Now we use FAM and condoms.

I am sorry to hear it, but I am glad that you are educated and were able to find something that works for you. I am lucky not to have many issues with hormonal bc, so that is not one of my worries. I hope I am right!
