Question-New to the pill

I just started taking the pill (I'm on my third week) and I have a question/concern. I have discussed with my doctor and she said that if I wanted I could skip my week of inactive pills and start the next packet of pills so that I can skip periods. She suggested taking three packs of pills and on the third pack taking the inactive pills (there for getting my period every three months). My concern is that my mom supposedly got pregnant while on the pill (I don't know how good she was at taking her pill on time). I am very anal about taking my pill at the right time every day, but since I'm not going to get my period for the next three months how do I know that the pill is working? If anyone has some advice for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also, I am taking Levora .15/30. Can someone explain to me what the numbers mean? Thanks again.

The "numbers" on your Levora prescription are the dosages of hormones that you recieve in each pill. The hormones are most likely estrogen and progesterone. Skipping the placebo pills should have no effect on the protection that your contraceptive offers. If your insurance company covers the cost of the medication, it is likely that they will refuse to pay for the prescription early since there are usually seven days of placebo pills. Your pharmacy will probably tell you that the refill is too soon to be covered by insurance.
