Yaz, Skipping Placebo

I'm a 33 year old dork... I'm taking Yaz for PMDD (Thank GOD, it's been a life savor)... Each month on the placebo I go into a really bad place and get headaches, cranky and insomnia... I've decided to give myself a break and skip the placebo this month and jump right back to the next pill... JUST TO HELP THIS OLD BLONDE BRAIN (ha !), I should theoretically not expect any side effects by jumping to the next hormone pill right ? (can you believe out of 16 years of being on the pill, I've never skipped the placebo's !!!) I can only potentially expect next months cycle to be a bit worse ?

Any help is appreciated...

Tami

Thanks Jill.. I have been on Yaz for over 3 months now.. I did call my doc and she was cool skipping (thank goodness :) )... I'll let you know how it goes..

Oh a funny one for you- My doc (bless her heart) says' You know by skipping the placebo you are not going to have a period".. I was laughing and said "yes, that's the point" ;-)...

Hi Jill,

I skipped my placebo's on my 4th month of Yaz to get some relief from the insomnia and anxiety I get on the placebo's..... I'm into the second week of my new pack and I had very light spotting today... Is this normal on yaz due to the low hormones ??? I'm taking Yaz for PMDD, not necessarily for birth control...

Any insight is greatly appreciated. I'm prob not going ot make a habit of skipping placebo's, but was traveling to see my family and would have been in that 'bad zone' of hormone withdraw and wanted to spare them....

Any insight ???

THanks

Hi Jill,

I posted this on the PMDD board, so there may be duplicates for some readers.

I went to see my doc yesterday re: the breakthru bleeding w/ Yaz (Due to skipping placebo). We've concluded that when I get to the placebo's on the Yaz cycle I should wear this small dose estrogen patch. It appears I'm having an estrogren 'crash' or 'withdraw' once I'm off the hormones of Yaz... Once I get on those placebo's I get anxiety, insomnia and headaches. So we'll see how this works over skipping the pill. The past months I've taken a valium or lunesta.. She was absolutely fine w/ that, but wanted to try and find a hormonal alternative to help too.. She said to test it out and lets see what results we get. Everyone is different and so sensitive to chemicals it's never a one fit all... She's a great doctor.. I really adore her, so trust she's trying to do the right thing for me.

My doctor did recommend I stay on the Yaz and not stop and get my period and then start a new Yaz pack.. I've got about 1 more week to go, so I'll just hang in there.

Just wanted to share the update,
Tami
