IUD Insertion

Hi Everyone,
Well I have an appointment with a new doctor that I'm hoping will insert an IUD for me (thanks for everyone that encouraged me in my previous post!). I was just wondering when do they normally insert the iud? I thought I read it was good to insert mid cycle but I don't know what that means...
Thanks!
Amy

Usually they prefer to insert it while you're on your period. The cervix is slightly open and makes the insertion easier.
It doesn't HAVE to be done at that time, mine wasn't. But, I'd go with when it's supposed to be easier.
Good luck!!!
Sallie
Hi Amy,
I had my IUD inserted during my period. The cervix is opened up more during your period, so it makes it easier to get the IUD up in there past your cervix and into your uterus.
Good luck!
I had mine inserted on day 3 of my period. I do think getting it inserted during your period is typical.
There was some cramping during the procedure but it wasn't that bad and was over pretty soon. Also haven't had children so the dr. had to stick something in my uterus to measure first which felt like a pinch. Not very pleasant but overall worth it. I love being hormone free (I use paraguard).
