Nuvaring and Tylenol??
| Fri, 03-30-2007 - 1:52am |
So after I read another post, I started doing some research online about Nuvaring and my migraines.. I came across some info that said Nuvaring can interfere with certain other meds, and Tylenol (acetaminophen) was on the list.. It didn't say what the interference would be. (It said increased, decreased, or altered.) The reason I'm concerned is because one of the migraine meds I'm on, Midrin, one of the main ingredients in it is acetaminophen!! Not only that, but I was recently told not to take ibuprofen anymore because of some issues going on

Hi Beck, welcome back!
Jill
I had a doctor prescripe a medicine that wasn't supposed to be used with progestron only birth control pills, and it was bad news. I told him many times I was on that type because I couldn't have estrogen, but he only looked up how the medicine would react with regular birth control pills and I ended up having a period so heavy that I could leave my house. A super plus tampn and pad would be completely soaked in less than 30 minutes. That happened for two momths because I saw my gyno and told him what was happening and he made the connection with the medicine. I guess if i bothered to read the insert, it mentioned not to take it with progestron only pills, but I feel my doctor should have been on that since I asked specifically and waited an extra week before starting it so he had time to research.
Doctors are not perfect. They are busy people, and there is a ton of information to worry about. My first doctor let me try seasonale even though I have migranes with auras, but after my migranes increasingly getting worse and then having one for two days and my entire left side of my body going numb, he took me off and no doctor will let me on anything containing estrogen. When I was bleeding nonstop for over 3 months from trying the depo shot, my doctor said if it was too bad it could be stopped with a regular birth control pill but she wouldn't do it unless it got a lot worse. I thought it was really bad since I was using super and regular tampons every day and having to change every couple of hours, but she thought it was livable and that the risk was too high to give me anything with estrogen. Some people have great experiences with depo... I wasn't one of them.
I would defiantely talk to you doctor about the bc because the bc companies do not recommend that you take themm, and nuvaring is one of them. I wanted to try that, but when I was reading one their website, they mentioned that it was not for people with certain types of migranes. There are options without the estrogen.
