Cervix larger after IUD insertion

I just had a copper IUD inserted on Wednesday. Remarkably, I feel fine. I was cramping afterwards and by yesterday they had lessened quite a bit. Today, pretty much no pains at all (which sort of worries me).

Anyway, I swear my cervix feels larger now. Is this normal? I keep feeling like maybe the IUD is lodged in there. I don't feel anything hard like the tip of it or anything but it is sort of strange.

Oh, I'm 31 and no kids, in case this makes a difference.

Thanks for any help.

After I had my IUD (mirena) put in I felt, swollen, maybe that's a good word. It went away after a couple of days. Since you haven't had kids maybe it's more pronounced, to me it felt like after I had my son. Big and swollen inside is the best way to describe it.

Hi there.

Could be to do with some swelling. My cervix changed after insertion. Instead of the shape of the entrance to the cervix being a dimple like it would be for someone who hasn't had kids (which I haven't), mine changed into the shape of a slit like it does for someone who has had a vaginal delivery. I also had a hysteroscopy when my IUD was inserted, so that probably contributed as well.

Hi Marina,

I've been reading your posts and sounds like you're pretty nervous about your IUD. :)

I also just got paraguard and have never had children. Your cramping symptoms were exactly what I had, rather prominent the first day, less the second day and pretty much gone the 3rd day. And I also felt kind of swollen inside. In fact, I tried to check for the string the first few days and couldn't feel a thing. I finally felt a little brush of something on my finger a week later and then last week at my follow up appointment the doctor saw the string and said all is well.

I find the whole concept of having something inside my body long term a little odd, but overall I'm thrilled with mine, at this early date at least. I love being hormone free. And I feel much more confident about the effectivness then when I was on the pill.

Thanks for your comments, Karen. How long have you had your IUD at this point? I don't think I'm going to relax until my follow-up appointment on May 8th!
