Hi everyone im new to the board. I have never been on bc before and i recently went to the drs and she gave me nuvaring. I was due to insert it for the first time today but i was too worried and scared about all the side effects ive read about. I realllly dont want to gain any weight. Plus ive read about the headaches and such people have gotten. I really just need everyone to let me know what their side effects were and how much weight they gained. PLUS i know my friend said u never feel the ring is this true? and how can u not feel it during sex its right there? Also does it have an easy tendency to fall out during? Thanks.

ANY advice will greatly help! :)

I was on Nuvaring for 2.5 years with no weight gain. I gained some weight over the past year, most likely due to stress eating and when I went on a diet I had no trouble losing what I'd gained.
I also didn't get any of the headaches that people talk about, so maybe I just got lucky.

The one big side effect I did notice, however, was a BIG drop in libido to the point of almost never being interested in sex which is eventually what led me to no longer be on it (that and my fiance got the big V). Other than that, I loved my ring. I was never able to remember to take pills so it was a great option for me.

Another nice thing is my doctor told me I could leave it in for a full 4 weeks (it's technically still good up to 30+ days according to the insert info) and skip a period every other time. (Occasionally when I'd do that my body decided it really wanted to menstruate so I would get some spotting and I'd take it out for a week.)

I asked my fiance if he could feel it during sex and he said no. I also never had a problem with it falling out. Every once in awhile I wouldn't get it in completely right so it would slip down to where I could feel it but it still stayed in, I just had to take it out and reinsert correctly.

In case you haven't heard, there's a helpful little program on the Nuvaring website called Nuvatime that you set the date of insertion and it alerts you to when you need to remove the ring. Pretty handy if you're forgetful like me. ;)

Good luck!

I don't have any side effects from the ring, at least not bad ones. I have pretty light periods and they're like clockwork most of the time. I didn't gain any weight, I don't have trouble losing weight when I need to, but I haven't had issues with my weight with anything I've taken.

I don't feel the ring during sex (the vast majority of the time) or any other time. My husband doesn't notice it. You have most of your nerve endings at the opening of your vagina, and the ring usually sits farther back than that. It's flexible too, so it moves out of the way and conforms to the shape of your body as needed. You don't even have to remove it for your annual exams. I've never had my ring come out unless I was removing it.

The first couple of weeks I was using the ring (that was over four years ago), I checked to make sure it was still there every time I went to the bathroom. After the first couple of weeks, I'd check every morning in the shower. Now that it's been over four years, I check for it after sex and that's it. It might seem a little freaky at first, but you get used to it.

Good luck, the only way to know is to give it a try! I hope it goes well.

I was able to lose weight on nuvaring; I was already losing and continued to lose. I liked it.

It came out a couple of times during sex, but I just rinsed and reinserted when finished. It is still effective as long as it is not out more than 3 hours.

I really never felt it once it was in.

Good luck<
