Depo Provera Problems

I need to seek info from others who may be experiencing problems with Depo. I was on depo for about 10 years and about a year ago was taken off because of menopause. Very recently, I have been having a lot of pain in the groin area on both sides and hip pain. My sister also was on depo for 10 years and is going thru the same thing. I asked my gyn if it could be possible that this pain is connected with the depo and he said that if I was not on calcium for those 10 years, then it is very possible. I was on depo for about 8 years without the calcium because I had different drs for those years and was never told that I needed it. I will see an orthopedic dr this week first to see what they say, but my sister already went this route and was told to do physical therapy twice a week. She did not have the money for that, so she keeps living on over the counter meds. I will probably try the physical therapy, but from the info I've gotten on the internet, drs don't acknowledge that depo can create problems. Has anybody experienced synthoms like this?

Hi there,
I wasn't on depo long enough for it to cause problems like that, but it's very possible that this is the cause of your problems. The FDA has only recognised in the last couple of years that depo can cause bone density loss, and unless doctors keep up with the latest research, etc, many probably still don't know about it.
PT at this point is probably very important for the both of you. Even though your sister can't afford it, at least if you find out what you need to do, then the two of you can work together to devise some sort of exercise etc that she can do that won't cost her anything. It's important that you both build strength back up in your bones and pelvis, and take calcium supplements to prevent any further degeneration.
