Birth Control and PMS

I have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 2 years. I have had no problems with it other than some yeast infections and once in awhile, breakthrogh bleeding. That happens very rarely. Lately, I have been experiencing some things about 1 week before to the week that my period will start. My only real symptom is mood swings. One minute I am happy and the next minute I am mad and crying for no reason. Could this be PMS? I don't know if you can still have it while on the pill. This has only been going on for a couple of months. Thanks for any help!!!

Hi jelly2323, welcome!

You can still have PMS when you're on the pill. Theoretically it shouldn't be as bad as when you're not on the pill. We don't really know why it still happens, since you're not ovulating, but there's a suspicion that there's still some kind of hormonal thing going on in the background.
I agree, though. If this is problematic, you might want to consider switching to a pill that has the same dose all 21 (or 24 for some pills) active days.
Good luck!
