Hi everyone My name is Jessica. I recently had my IUD removed and had it for a 1.5 yrs. We didn't think we wanted anymore children that's why i had the IUD. It was alot easier that haveing to remember to take BC pill. My question is does anyone know if it is difficult to get PG after and how long could it take. I have continued to have a pretty regular AF the entire time. So could i still be fertile. I just had it removed last month.

Thanks Jessica

I've been told that it doesn't affect fertility after you have it removed. I still have mine so I'm just going off what I've been told. I would think it might take a few cycles to regulate your body to get used to not having that in there though. I wouldn't worry for quite awhile it takes most couples something like 8 months to get pregnant (according to my doc).

Hi Jessica,

I also have the Mirena IUD and am considering having it removed to TTC in August. My doctor said that a woman can become pregnant as soon as the first month following removal. It all depends if you do the deed when you are ovulating. And for many women, they are ovulating the first month after removal.

Good luck!

I know of a woman, from a number of years ago, who posted to the board about getting pregnant following an IUD removal.

As the story goes, she had a doctor's appointment on a particular day. She wakes up in the morning, has intercourse with her husband, and goes to the doctor. The doctor, for whatever reason, believes that it's very important to remove her IUD at the appointment, a number of hours after she'd had intercourse, and she got pregnant from the sex she'd had before the appointment. And that was all it took--she was fertile literally immediately after her IUD was removed.

Good luck!

The Mirena IUD only prevents ovulation about 50% of the time, so there is a high possibility you could conceive straight away. You might want to chart your cycles so you have a better idea of when you ovulate, if you struggle to get pregnant this time around.
