Have you tried ultra thin latex condoms at all? They would provide more sensation than the regular ones as well. e.g. Durex fetherlite, or something similar.
Yeah, we've tried ultra-thin. DH still says it's like wearing a raincoat and he feels nothing. :) I think the bigger problem is that any type of condom we've tried so far
Many guys lose their erection when they have to wear condoms. But I think part of it is psychological in many cases. With SO, the first time we had to use a condom was when I was on antibiotics, and didn't want to risk my BC failing (back in the day when I was on some). He had used condoms plenty of times in the past with other partners without issues, but this time he lost his erection. Why? I put it down to the fact that he was used to having sex without a condom, and he didn't like wearing them, and didn't see why he had to. Now that condoms are a NECESSARY part of our life, he doesn't seem to have any problem maintaining an erection, or getting enough stimulation to orgasm. And in the rare instances where he does have a little trouble, I just give him some extra stimulation by playing with his testicles or gently rubbing his perineum during intercourse.
It's reached the point now where SO is so used to wearing condoms that when we can go without them, the stimulation is too much ;-).
Also, in some cases it's a size issue. If the condoms are too tight, then they can cut off the blood supply a bit, and affect the quality of erection that a guy can maintain. Regardless of how well latex condoms stretch, one size does not fit all! And if they are slightly too loose, then this can cause issues as well.
Try the lambskin condoms, and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise you might have to improvise a bit, with providing DH extra stimulation, in both foreplay and during intercourse. When he putting the condom on, you might want to continue giving him some level of stimulation with your hands to keep him aroused while he puts it on.
Otherwise you could look into the Fertility Awareness Method, which is what we use. That would at least give you a few days in the month where you could go without condoms. A book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler tells you all about it. It's a great read.
Before I went on the pill, my boyfriend and I used condoms. He is definitely the kind of guy who needs a lot of stimulation to climax, so condoms were not ideal in that regard. What he did to solve the problem (that smarty pants!) was to put a tiny bit of KY inside the condom to heighten the sensation a bit.
The only thing I would caution you about is putting too much lube in there. The condom can slide off if you do. (It happened to us once, but I had already started the pill. Thank goodness!) A small drop is all he'll need, though. Worked for my fella!
