Someone told me that the hormones in the Nuvaring act locally, rather than systemically like the pill. Is there really a difference in how the hormones are absorbed by your body with the nuvaring? Don't they still get absorbed my the blood stream the same way as a pill would?

they are different because they are local. Most women tend to have less side effects with local hormones then systemic ones. I'm sure Jill will have the scientific reason for it though.

Is it more risky to have hormones concentrated there right by your vaginal walls? Like, could it lead to some kind of reproductive cancer?

I would consider the Nuvaring's hormones to be systemic.
