Hello Everyone. I am a newbie to the board. I am currently on Depo and have been for several years. It works great for me and I love having no periods but my doctor is worried that the long term use is starting to take a toll on my body (worried about bone loss). Last week she suggested that I might like using Implanon. Has anyone used this? I love the fact that it lasts 3 years, but I also read that it can cause irregular periods. I would love to hear stories or feedback since I don't know anyone who has used this. Thanks!!

Thanks for the information and advice! I think I will make an appt with my doctor to discuss a few concerns I have and maybe even set-up a date for insertion. I read through the links you sent and it really sounds like something that would work well for me. I will defiantly keep you updated on what I hear from the doctor whether or not I try Implanon.

Thanks,
Elizabeth

Hey,
As you are considering implanon i just wanted to share my experiences..
I live in the UK where its fairly easy to get one inserted. I had mine put in in December '06 and since then I've had heavy bleeding continuously! My doctor tried 3 different meds, currently on the 4th!! But while 1 type stopped the bleeding during taking the pills but came back a few days after. From my point of view I can't wait to get it removed, other people I know have Implanon and have no trouble..I'm just one of the unlucky 25%. On the other hand, I always had heavy periods before the implant so that could be a contributing factor, not sure but something to think about.
Hope my experiences will help you, Sarah x

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your feedback. I am really sorry you have been bleeding so much on it. At least you can get it out and the hormonal side effects should go away pretty quickly. In case you are interested I am on Yaz and although it made my migraines worse, I am on a migraine prevention pill now that is working great, I have to say that my periods are almost an afterthought! My last one lasted 3 days and I hardly needed a pantyliner. I barely bleed at all and the cramps were not much. I don't know if Yaz is available there in the UK or if you are even interested in a BCP.

Good luck and thanks again'

I don't use Implanon, but someone else posted that in Europe it's being used for several years. I don't mean to scare you, but it is ESSENTIAL that the doc knows how to insert implanon correctly. Here in the Netherlands women got pregnant (unwanted), because Implanon was misplaced by the doc who inserted it. Some of these women sued the docs and the company that makes Implanon and got compensation. Side note, it is very very uncommon in the Netherlands that individuals sue companies, since we don't have this sueing-culture like in the USA. Point being here, make sure your doc is well trained. Also I have heard stories of women who had to have Implanon surgically removed cause it was embedded in the upper arm.
