Hi ladies!

New user here. I just went to the doctor today, and talked to him about irregular periods...I've always had them, and he suggested putting me on a low-dose birth control to see if it could help regulate my periods.

He wrote a prescription for Yaz and said that I could try it if I wanted. I am trying to do some research before I make the decision to go on BC or not. I'm 22 years old and never been on any kind of birth control before.

I wanted to get some opinions from those of you on Yaz or even if you're not on Yaz, I'll still take advice!

Thanks for all your help!

Hi,

I take Yaz for PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, I don't use it as BC because my DH is fixed! I love it and I would only say that it is really important to give it at least 3 months or cycles to let your body get used to the hormones and to get over any unwanted side effects. Some that can come and be annoying are acne (during the first month or so), headaches, breast tenderness, and mood changes. There are many other possible side effects but IMHO it's better not to dwell on those and just give your body time to adjust and see if it is the right pill.

Benefits can include shorter lighter periods, better mood especially during PMS if you have it, less PMS in general, no acne (it is FDA approved as an acne tx as well as tx for PMDD), diuretic effects (the progesterone in Yaz has diuretic effects so bloating pretty much goes away especially during PMS).

There is lots more to say and everybody is different. I have been on it since 9/06. The only major issue I have had is it made my migraines worse (my docs and I were afraid it might) so I take a migraine prevention med that is working perfectly.

If you want to read more about Yaz you might want to check out the PMS/PMDD message board on IVillage because there are lots of us with PMDD on it and we have written diaries and stuff.

Also, have you been to www.yaz-us.com?

Best,

Marcella
