missing periods on nuvaring, want to TTC

I have been on many forms of B/C including the pill and for a long time now I'm on nuvaring. I've been regular before B/C and on it. I want to TTC this summer, so I am stopping nuvaring soon. But lately I've missed periods or got them late. My doctor said missing one on nuvaring is a side effect and HPTs are negative. But I read online that it could be more serious. I am trying to get in to an OBGYN instead of my regular doctor.
Here's the details:
On nuvaring for over a year
Skipped one period (BFN)
Got next period late (super light) (BFN)
Skipped this period* (or it's late too) (no pregnancy test yet)
*I put my nuvaring in late for the last cycle by a couple days since I wasn't originally starting on a Sunday. But could that cause another disruption?
Thanks in advance for any ideas of why this could be happening?!

My period was extremely light to non-existent on the ring also. I even had very light to missing periods on Ortho-Evra, the patch. It turned out that I was able to get pregnant the first month off of the patch though, and I was 34.5 and dh was 35 when we got the positive pregnancy test.
I would guess that Nuvaring is just lightening your periods to nothing. While missing periods can be a sign of a problem, I think that missing them on hormonal birth control while using it correctly is not a sign of a serious problem. It just doesn't cause your uterus to build up enough lining to make a period sometimes.
Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? It is a great book about how your body works and is much more in-depth than I had seen before I read it. It will give you many signs to tell whether or not your body is ovulating after you stop hormonal birth control.
