Questions about newly inserted IUD

I just had the Paragaurd IUD inserted 2 days ago after 12 years on BC pills. I've never been preg, but insertion was not too painful. My period was nearly over when I had it inserted and my flow did increase. I figured this was normal and it would start to taper off over the next few days, but it seems to be getting heavier. Is this normal? How long does the spotting typically last?

Also, my doc said that she tends to leave the strings a little long, so they're easy to find and cause less discomfort, but they feel really long to me. It seems like depending on what position I'm in, the strings are different. If I'm standing with 1 foot propped up, the strings seem much shorter, or further in. If I'm sitting with my pelvis sort of scooted forward, they are very close to the vaginal opening. Is this normal? I'm just really paranoid about expulsion.

I have the Mirena. It's normal to have spotting fairly heavy for a few days or a week even. I spotted off and on for about 6 weeks after having mine put in. It takes most women's bodies 3-6 months to adjust to having an IUD.

Depending on the position I'm in the strings feel a little longer or shorter. You'll get used to what's normal for you. I was paranoid about expulsion for the first few weeks to and kept checking my strings. I found the more I checked the more I spotted.

Feel free to ask any questions you have

Different positions can bear your cervix downwards, making it feel lower, and therefore it is easier to feel the strings.
