Hi I am new to this board, I hope to get a lot of help from here. I would like to know if anyone here or know of anyone that has gotten their tubes tied. I just had a baby 2mths ago and this makes the third child I am 31 and my DH is going to be 40 in august. My two sons are 9 and 7 yo and I just had a girl so I am so finished. I would like to know the exact procedure and if anyone has had any complications from this procedure. I have asked my doctor but I can't really seem to get the real just off this minor operation.
I have never had an operation before I have never been put under either. I have had all my children naturally and have never been had the reason for a operation of any kind.
I am really nervous as to what it is about. I plan on taking birth control for the first couple months after the operation to be on the safe side. I've heard that some women have become pregnant with their tubes tide. I appreciate anyones input.

OK...I hope my computer doesn't shut down again! LOL I'm have everything typed out and then go to post and it wouldn't do anything-sooo frustrating!!!

OK....I had my tubes tied plus an ablation done in may of 2006.I'm very happy with the results of the ablation-I hardly spot each month as a period LOVE THAT!!!! As far as the tubal goes-I haven't had any problems from that.I have heard that some women have heavier periods after getting a tubal but each woman's different. The procedure was to be an outpatient procedure meaning that I was to be released the same day but becuase I had numerous things done I had more pain than usual and I was kept for 23 hours. If I had just had the tubal done I probably could have gone home that afternoon.Yes you're put to sleep-that's part of the normal procedure. They sent you home with prescription meds for pain. After the pain pills were gone I don't remember needing anything stronger than ibuprofen.I think I was sore for a few days but nothing major.Like I said I'm happy with the results....GOOD LUCK with your decision/procedure.I'd be happy to answer any more ?s you have...just post!

Hi. I had my tubes tied about 5 years ago. The procedure was very simple and it was my FIRST time being put under as well. The doc made a small incision just above the pubic hair line on my right side. He then removed a small portion of each tube. Tied and sautered each end together and finished. Outpatient procedure. Was sent home with pain pills and strict instructions on keeping the site packed for a few days with pressure dressing and cleaning instructions. I made a full and complete recovery and missed only a week of work to recover.
You can return to sexual activity as soon as your comfortable and the procedure is good immeditely. There was no wait and see time to make sure the surgery stuck.

However, I do want to give you the down side of all of this. Since having my tubes tied over the past several years my periods have become progressivly worse. With a trip to the emergency room just this past week with severe pain and cramping. Some women experience this others go all their adult lives with no problems. My mom has her tubes tied and had never had any problems related to this.

Hope this helps.
Good luck to you and congrats on the newest addition to your family!!!
