Wondering about Yaz

Hi,
I'm considering once again getting back on some birth control. I know it would be helpful for me since my periods are VERY irregular. I'm just curious what people have to say about Yaz. I've been reading about it having less estrogen in it than Yasmin and the different progestin drsp. What kind of side effects are most experienced? I am a very small person and tend to get nauseaus with birth control... does this happen often with Yaz? Thank you so much!

I have a sample box, but haven't been able to use it yet. I'm a first time BC user, so I'm curious as well. I'll let you know how it goes for me. I know that you have to watch your blood pressure, and that its reccommended for women under 40. It's supposed to help you lose weight as well.

Hi, I am 47 and take Yaz for severe PMDD. I love it and think it is a wonderful little pill! I want to stay on it as long as my docs will let me!
The first month I had some nausea and strange headaches that did not really hurt--just annoying. I broke out once on my face and my first 2 periods were a bit off with lots of spotting.
I have been on Yaz for 6 months and my PMDD is totally under control. I have had to start taking a migraine preventive because the Yaz started giving me daily migraines but my doctors and I kind of expected this to happen. I am fine now. My periods are 3 days long and they are very light. I no longer have the horrible bloating from the water retention since the progesterone in Yaz has a diuretic effect.
I think some people have trouble on this pill just like with any other pill. The good thing about Yaz is that it is a very low dose of estrogen.
If you want to read more posts about Yaz you might want to check out the PMS/PMDD board.
I have observed that women who seem to have an underlying depression do not do well on Yaz, but they would not be expected to do well on any BCP. The problem is that many women with PMDD also have an underlying depression so when They take Yaz they end up feeling worse. Just my 2 cents :-)

I have been on Yaz earlier this year, and have just stopped recently. I had a lot of negative side effects that were still present in my third pack.
I began to get moody, and out of a blue I would start crying, and it was very unpleasant to be in that state as if I could not control this feeling. Now, I haven't been depressed since high school, and that was almost ten years ago. And for the first time in my life, I am truly happy with my life and where I am at the moment. But these crying fits were awful, and I didn't know how to control it. I knew it must have been the pill.
My sex drive was nowhere to be found, and intimacy that I once enjoyed, became unbearable. I experienced a lot of dryness, and it became apparent that it was just getting worse and worse.
The only thing that went away with time was occasional nausea and headaches.
I have now been a month and a half off Yaz, my gyn put me back on my old pill Zovia. Few days into my new pill, I felt a sense of relief, and felt much much happier. And my skin is wonderful. And my intimacy returned, like a raging tiger. :-)
I really wanted Yaz to work for me, specially after never having such negative side effects. But it just didn't work for me. I think all women are different, and just because Yaz didn't work for me, it might work for you. You won't know until you try and give it a chance.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

I'm on Yaz strictly for PMDD purposes, it has literally saved my life. I began taking it back in October. I was on antidepressants galore for a severe case of PPD and none of the meds helped the PMDD... then when I began Yaz, it helped me greatly. I'm no longer on anything else (other than my Synthroid).
As far as side effects, I did have some headaches, moreso than usual, and some feelings of nausea, in the beginning. But for me, quitting the Yaz would be literally life threatening, so I wanted to just try to get past the icky stuff! And, I did... and there are no more side effects, haven't been, for quite a long time.

I'm with you on the moodiness. I felt like crying off and on all day today! I hope it passes! This is only my first week on Yaz.
It could be worse. I'll wait it out awhile.
Let me know how it goes for you!
