Starting Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo

Due to menstrual migraines on Yasmin my doctor has changed me to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I am really nervous about this change. I had done a lot of research before my doctor's appointment and I thought she would either change me to Yaz or let me go back to Mircette (which my lovely insurance no longer covers) since the only time I'm getting the migraines is with my period.
At any rate, she wanted to give me what she had samples of. The reason I'm so nervous about the change is because I go on vacation this month, my first vacation in a loooooong time lol. Has anyone had a positive experience? (Especially anyone with migraines?)
I was really fed up with my doctor's approach. Free samples are nice but this choice just doesn't make sense to me. I think if this pill doesn't work out I either have to go off or find a new gyn!!

I did the opposite switch (from OTC lo to Yasmin) and have never been happier. At the time I thought I loved OTC lo, but I did have a number of side effects I really never associated with the pill. The one thing I really didn't like about OTC lo vs. Yasmin is the fact that on OTC lo my period would come anywhere from hormone free day 2 to day 5, which was slightly nerve racking for me. With Yasmin, always comes on the same day and near the same time. The PMS with OCT lo (for me) was a little worse than Yasmin (rarely have it now). Overall, OTC lo is a good pill though (but I wouldn't go back -- everyone's body is different though). I never (thankfully) had problems with migraines, so I can't really help you there.

I went from OT-C to OT-C lo and have not had ANY side effects, no weight gain, no mood swings, on the plus side my periods are lighter. I remember reading somewhere that OT-C lo might make your boobs grow, unfortunately that didn't happen for me. :)
I'm just curious, had you suggested to your Gyn what pill you wanted to try? I know I would also be upset if *I* suggested something for myself and she told me no. Or did she just give you samples because she thought it was something you might want to try?
On my last visit mine, wanted me to try the nuvoring, Not for me, I'm quite happy with my pill now. (hopefully no bad effects for you)
Yes I asked for Mircette or Yaz but she offered me Femcon or Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Looking back I'm glad I at least chose the Lo (her first choice was Femcon). I had never heard of Femcon, but now that I see it is higher in estrogen I'm really perplexed she offered me that one! She raved about Mircette in the past and it really worked well for me so the whole appointment was strange.
I take my first pill tonight. Hopefully my doctor knows something I don't! :)
