Getting pregnant with an IUD in

I know that the Paragard IUD is supposed to be 99% effective, but I also know that 1% is 1%...and I'm afraid that I've slipped into that 1% category.
I got pregnant in 2005, after 5 years of not being on BC at all. I thought I couldn't get pregnant. So when I did, it was a huge shock, that ultimately led to the decision of an abortion.
Due to that trauma, I decided to get an IUD, one of the absolute safest methods of BC out there. I just had my checkup on Friday, and she said that everything was fine. Friday night, 3 days before ovulation, I had sex.
The first time I was pregnant, I knew within 7 days after I had sex that it was true. I had unbelievable fatigue, and insanely sore breasts, which never happens to me. Sure enough, I took a test a few days later, and it was positive.
Now, I'm 6 days after sex, 3 after my probable ovulation, and I feel the EXACT SAME WAY.
I CAN'T be pregnant, can I? I mean, 1% is so small of a percentage...
I'm just grasping at straws here, because the only other time in my life I've ever felt this way was when I was pregnant before. And I can't be pregnant now. That's why I chose an IUD, for God's sake!
Have you ever gotten pregnant on an IUD, or known someone who has? What was the outcome? Did they miscarry? Or have an abortion? Did they have a healthy baby? Did they take out the IUD or leave it in?
I'm just so scared...

I don't know much about pregnancy with IUD, I think that if they can easily take it out then they do but if not it can stay in.
Really though, what I wanted to say is to try not to freak. I have 2 kids and both times I knew right away that I was pregnant as well, and since then I have had plenty of pregnancy scares that turned out to be PMS. PMS can mess with your head and stress doesn't help any so relax as much as you can and when the time comes start with the ept's.
I am not trying to minimize your fears, but the IUD is really safe so most likely you are not pregnant!
Good luck.

I second the other poster's comment about PMS tricking you. I had a few pregnancy scares when it was really nothing and I would have bet my life I was pregnant. An IUD really is the most effective reversible birth control.
I'd try not to worry because that will make your symptoms worse (hugs) Let us know.

Hi
Jill
I've had my IUD for a year and a half now - and I haven't gotten pregnant.
If you just recently got the IUD, the symptoms you are experiencing could just be your body's reaction to getting used to the new form of birth control. Rather than pregnancy.
I've had the IUD for 10 months, and it's the Paragard, nonhormonal, and I've never had ANY side effects/symptoms.
I woke up this AM and had a moment of nausea...and have started having a slight twinge of crampiness, very low...just like last time.
I guess all I can do is wait and see...
How do you know when you ovulated? Are you charting your cycles, or did you have distinct ovulatory pain? If you did ovulate when you did, and had sex three days after, then you should have been fairly safe even if you didn't have an IUD, so with an IUD you should have been quite safe.
A fertilised egg doesn't implant until about a week after it is fertilised, so in theory it would be too early to have symptoms. But many women do report symptoms as early as you are experiencing.
But if you are really concerned, a HPT should be accurate two weeks after you had sex.
