I'm sorry to keep posting. If i still feel this way on Monday (no weekend hours) I'm calling my gyn and seeing if they can see me asap but I need some advice (or at least a sympathic ear). I had paragard inserted just over 1 week ago (on the 24th of April). My period had started on the 20 of April, I was very happy because it was my first month off of bc pills in 10 years so I was please that my period started on time.
As i posted before insertion was very painful and I had been feeling odd down there since. Everyone tired to assure me that it was normal and I was feeling more confident...until this morning! I woke up and my right side down low was aching, when i would walk or reach it was painful. I took motrin and it got better but throughout the day I was feeling crampy. I didn't know if it was cramps or gas but when i got home from work I was bleeding (spotting?). It was thick though (clots), as though I was having my period. The pain is less than it was this morning but i'm still crampy and still bleeding. Enough so that i have to wear a panty liner and there's always something on the tissue (sorry for being graphic).
Now should i be worried? I know that spotting is normal but spotting with cramps is Ok? I did have the iud inserted during my period, and once it was inserted my period lasted over a week. This past sunday was probably the first time i could not wear a pad. But that only lasted until this afternoon.
Advice please!
Amy

Amy,
I'm sorry to hear you're still uncomfortable w/ paraguard. It sounds like a normal adjustment, but check with your doctor to be sure.
Most ob/gyn's have an answering service after hours (women going into labor isn't a 9-5 monday - friday thing, kwim?) Call your doctor's office & listen to their outbound voicemail & leave a message or page the doc on call.
I wish I had better advice, it's been over 5 yrs since my IUD was "installed" and a month since it was removed, so I really don't have any input other than "your body will adjust itself"
Good luck!
It's probably nothing but some normal spotting. But, it NEVER hurts to speak with your doc. I can remember my whole lower abdomen being sore and sometimes tender for a month or so after I got my IUD inserted. (I also have cramping and tenderness during ovulation normally, so I tried not to worry.) I was still pumping for the baby so I didn't have a period from the time I got it inserted in Sept until Dec. I had some cramping off and on and had a lot of discharge (still do occasionally). But, it did get better.
On Monday go ahead and see if they can get you in. It won't hurt to do an earlier check on it for your peace of mind. Just try not to stress over it and ruin your weekend.
Best wishes!!!
Sallie
After my IUD was inserted - I would also have random days where I would get very crampy. Some days it was more intense than others. I would also have to take advil to relieve the pain.
As for the spotting - it still sounds pretty typical, especially with Paragard. Paragard is known for causing heavier clottier periods. So I wouldn't be surprised to see clots during spotting as well.
