Ortho Tricyclen or Tri-Spintec 28?

Has anybody been on Ortho Tricyclene or Tri-Sprintec 28? How did it affect you? Any mood changes? What about physical changes like weight gain headache or migraine? What were your periods like?

I have been on Yaz for the last 6 months and I love it except for the migraines which come almost daily. I am now on Lyrica, which prevented the migraines for a little while and now they are back. Normally I only get the migraines around the time of my period but with the Yaz it was has been all the time. My docs are afraid I may be doing damage to my brain and so am I.

BTW, I do not need it for BCP I take Yaz for PMDD and the Tri-Sprintec is for migraine prevention and for PMDD.

I have 5 days of homone pills left with the Yaz and 4 days of placebo, My doc wants me to do a Sunday start but I do not see how that is possible. I may or may not bleed on a Sunday with Yaz. I am never really sure when my period will come on Yaz but it usually starts a few days into the next month's pills. Given that, the doc said to just take all the Yaz and then start the Tri Sprintec when I would normally start the new pack of Yaz. To tell you the truth I would much rather just be done with the Yaz since the headaches just keep coming. Is there a way for me to stop the Yaz early, have a period and then start the Tri Sprintec?

Any feed back is much appreciated :-)

Thanks so much Jill. I thought I could just stop and have a period since I don't use it for BC.

I have to tell you that the whole idea of using OTC for PMDD and migraines seems very illogical and against everything I have read, researched, and learned from people like you on I Village. I have advised many women to try monophasic BC rather than triphasic for the reasons you mentioned. With PMDD, most people agree that it is the changes in levels of hormones that trigger PMDD and it is well documented that estrogen crashing and then coming back up triggers migraines. So I am at a loss. I do not agree with this new doc but I gotta tell you that I trust him for some reason. He is adamant that it could work. What do I have to lose? A few more brain cells I guess. I see him Monday morning so I will try to talk to him some more about it.

I feel very much like the test rat in the maze. Somehow I am gonna find my way outa here to the food!

A friend is letting me have an estrogen patch to try in case I get the menstrual migraines with the new pill during placebo and I assume that I will given my history. If it helps then I will get a referral to a GYN and try to get some estrogen patches. I am not sure what else to do but try. I can't keep taking the Yaz and it is so awful since it totally cured my PMDD (except for the migraines).

Thanks, you are the best :-)
