Breakthrough Bleeding

I started my Loestrin24 last April 29, 2007. I am a Sunday starter with BCP. Prior to starting these pills, I've not taken BCP for three years. With previous pills, I had never experienced any sort of bleeding or other side effects. I basically took my pills and that was it. Well, last week, about Wednesday, I started having bloating and period like cramps. Monday morning I awoke to find myself bleeding. It was more than just spotting and was more like the first day of my period. It tapered off and I barely had anything yesterday, but today the bleeding has returned. This morning there was even a small clot. When I called the doctor's office yesterday they gave me the story of how my body has to get used to the pill, blah, blah, blah. Considering I had never had this before, one, I want to know how normal this is? Should break through bleeding be this heavy? Should I request a lower dose of hormone or give it the two-three months to bond with my system. I'm still having cramps today, which is pissing me off considering BCP are supposed to alleviate some of this stuff. Sorry this is kind of a vent, but any input is appreciated.

I am not familiar with that pill at all, but I was on Seasonale for 2 years and I experienced spotting pretty regularly in the beginning. I have friends on a several different kinds and they all told me the same thing. If you are still spotting after a few months, then you should maybe consider switching pills

Almost the exact same thing has happened to me on Loestrin 24, but in the second month. First month I had minor BTB right before my period. This month I have spotted/bled for the whole month. It started on day 7 and has not stopped... I am on day 19. I switched from Cryselle, and I had no problems with bleeding on that, my doc just wanted me on something lower for blood pressure. I have been told to stick it out for at least 3 months, 4 if possible, but I don't know if I can take this for another month!! :( Let me know how things go for you!

OMG i was just about to post the same question and then i saw your post. I'm on Microesgin fe 1/20 which is a generic version of Loestrin and im having heavy bleeding today, which is the 3rd week of the pills. I'm not supposed to have my period until next tues or wed. I was having cramps all day then i went to the bathroom and realized i was bleeding, and it wasn't spotting. It was heavy enough to be considered the 1st day of a period. The same thing happened to me last month and it lasted 1 day then it went away, then the week i was supposed to get my period, i was only spotting lightly. ugh what the heck was that all about.

Ive been on BCP for about 6-7 months but this is only my 2nd month on the loestrin brand. I was already having all kinds of issues with this pill so my doc told me to just finish this pack and she alredy prescribed otc lo for me. Thank god my last active pill is this sat, then my period week is next week then i can start my new pills. I'm still having cramps right now and it's pretty bad. It was as bad as before i started taking any pill and it was my 1st day of my period.

i'm not sure if this is normal or not, but just wanted to let u know that you're not alone. It's pretty irritating and i was also wearing a white skirt today at work. ughh. so i just left early.

I as on Loestrin FE until 2 months ago. Had one good month on that pill! Breakthru bleeding was almost constant from week 2-4 for me! The Dr switched me to Levora ( generic for Levlen) and have had no problems since!

I was thinking about just stopping the pill. I know they recommend that I give it two - three months for my body to adjust to the hormones. At least I'm not bleeding today. What's the point in being on BCP if you're going to bleed through your cycle anyway? No one wants to have sex with you while you're bleeding, even if it is just spotting. Anyway, I hope for you ladies that have started new pills or are starting new pills have better luck with them. I'm still taking mine for now and hope this bleeding goes away.

hello!! i used to have breakthrough bleeding all the time when i was on bc pills. i used to hate it. i would be fine and then out of the clear blue sky, id get that only too familiar feeling. i had it constantly when i was on pills-i was on the alesse. they were also causing me to have anxiety attacks-i got on the depo shot and i love it. i have had the breakthrough bleeding/spotting twice and it made me mad, but it tapered off and went away usually within 4 days. i would give your body at least 2 months to get used to the new pills-if you still have issues then-then i would talk to the doctor and see what can be done...take care!!

I figured it'd be easier to post in my same thread. Anywho, I stopped taking the pill. I couldn't deal with the mid-cycle bleeding. I was only on it for one pack. In any event, my LMP started 5/24 and was pretty normal. I was on BCP due to PCOS. That's why I'm pretty sure this is nothing. I had sex 6/7-8 and fot the past three to four days, i've had some mild cramping off and on and a lot of creamy CM. This is typical PMS for me, but the cramping started a little earlier than normal. What are the odds that I, someone with highly irregular cycles, who's just stopped BCP, could get pg? Like I said, I'm sure it's nothing, just wondering...
