depo shot ?

hello everyone!! i am on the 3 month depo shot and i love it. i have not had a period (a lil spotting twice but that was it), have not had a scare at all and have gained weight(a lil more than i wanted to-but before i was scary-skinny due to panic/anxiety attacks caused by stress and aggravated by the birth control pills i was on). i have been on it for 2 years and im 27. this last time i went, they had to split the shot up-they tried to put it in my left hip and couldnt because the spot they chose had already been used before-and i had some scar tissue in there. i then told the nurse that i have been having hip pain off and on-and she says that could be caused by the shot...and my friend told me her sister had to get hip surgery after being on the shot...so now my hubby is paranoid and wants me off the shot. he and everyone else in his family thinks its "time" to have another baby(i have 2 kids-one is almost 7 and the other is 3)...and i dont. i dont even know if i want any more kids-ever. but in case i change my mind, i dont want to go extreme and have my hubby get a vasectomy. my doctor told me at my last physical that they only like women on it for 2 years-it can cause osteoporosis if used for too long...(and since im Caucasian that risk is there already)...im just curious-how long were you on the shot if you used it? do you have any ill effects if you were on it longer than the 2 years? (or any ill effects just being on it for whatever time period)i just dont know what i should do-i really want to stay on it...it works great and is 100% covered by our insurance...but i dont want to hurt myself in the long run by doing it. thanks!!

Hi,
It must be frustrating having everyone tell you to have more kids when you're not ready.
I took a depo shot at 6 weeks post partum, 18 weeks post partum, then used nuvaring for a few months and went back for one more depo shot. I just got a mirena iud yesterday. I really like it in theory. In real life it's been great but I've only had it 24 hours:) It's as effective as a vasectomy and lasts for 5 years unless you remove it sooner.
I haven't had the shot long enough to have any bone issues. The bone loss is not thought to be reversible. That is scary to me. I had no libido on it and I am usually a high libido girl.
There are a lot of good options out there. Can you tell us your favorite things about depo and what you are willing to give up? Maybe we can go from there.
