had Mirena placed today...

The procedure itself wasn't too bad... I think I overly freaked myself out as usual lol.
But now, 6 hours later, the local anesthesia has worn off, and the cramps are at an all time high... 10 times worse than any I've ever have with my period. I'm worried about completely overdosing on ibuprofen, but oh well. The heating pad is working pretty well, but it goes right back to bad whenever I have to stand up to get water or anything haha.
So is this going to get better tomorrow? I have such a low tolerance to pain or anything out of the ordinary, I just keep praying this will be better tomorrow... until then, I'm back to my heating pad.
Thanks everyone!

Tomorrow should be better. I didn't get a local so I had cramps right away. I've had HORRIBLE cramps before so I was okay.
Try taking 2 aleve at the same time. Then when it's time to take the next dose take 2. I know that's tech too much in a 24 hour span but it's what I do all the time for cramps. A hot shower might help some too.
I WILL get better. (hugs) Just think that you might have a really light period soon or no period at all and all this will be a distant memory.
Congrats on your mirena! I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I only cramped for a few hours after getting it placed. I've been fine since and had mine for a week yesterday. By the next day, I didn't notice cramps at all. How are you feeling today?
After the Aleve wears off, if you took it, another alternative is up to 4 ibuprofen (800 mg total). That is prescription strength and what I took before getting mine put in.

Unfortunately, I feel the same today... if not worse. Probably because I slept through most of the night and didn't take anymore ibuprofen. I'm already over what I should take, so I think I'll call my gyn to see if it's ok
Thanks everyone... hopefully this will get better
I didn't really experience bad cramping like that after mine. I just had the bad cramping when it was inserted, but it wasn't any worse than my normal periods, which were really bad. I took 3 advil beforehand, and that is it. I went home and just watched tv for the rest of the day, and let my bf pamper me. I didn't have any more cramping once I was home. You might want to try some complete extra strentgh midol. That always helped me more than ibuprofin ever did. My bf will even steal it when he has really bad headaches because it works better than the advil.
Also, now that I have had it awhile, I notice that when i need to use the restroom or am bloated, I do get some intense cramping for a couple of minutes. I also got some bad cramping during my period, but I think that was just my body getting used to it. I had some really intense heavy periods before the IUD, and the whole reason I was even able to get it was because we are trying to make my periods go away and to lesson some pmdd symtoms I have.
good luck. I hope you feel better soon.
The gyn said that since I've never had children, and I'm a very thin person, that the severe cramping was expected... way to tell me yesterday mister lol.
He put me on Toradol so hopefully that'll kick in here pretty soon. Thanks for everyone's advice, I just thought I'd update.
Hi there,
I haven't had children, and when my Mirena was inserted, I was under a light general (Mirena was inserted straight after my hysteroscopy). As soon as I came out of the light general, all they would give me in the hospital was paracetamol! I was a bit slow for about three days, and spent a lot of time sitting watching movies, with a hot water bottle for the cramps, and took ibuprofen. So the cramps you are experiencing aren't unexpected, unfortunately.
This is the fourth day now, and it's much better. I switched back to ibuprofen, so hopefully it will still keep the cramps at bay.
Gosh I wish he'd put me under light general! I was practically in tears the whole procedure I was so scared it was going to hurt! haha
